Welcome to the Hobelman Family Website

Our Homeschooling Adventure!

We homeschooled on and off from 2004-2006.  Then when Seth was in 2nd and Kaia in Kindergarten we decided to take them out of the public school system.

Our homeschooling adventure has been just that an adventure. Seth started out in a Christian Kindergarten when he was only 4 and did wonderful.  Fiirst Grade we decided to homeschool and made it 2 months before all my fears and insecurities wore down my confidence and I enrolled him in public school. This of course was a nightmare. I was up there often but did not feel welcome at all. It took Seth over 3 months to check out books from the library because they never put him in the system. The librarian told me that the quiet ones usually get overlooked. When he finished the first grade his love of reading stopped and let’s just say we had a few behavioral issues. So I decided to homeschool for his 2nd grade year and Kaia would then be entering Kindergarten. The first couple of days were great then the roller coaster began. My husband had lost his job in August just when I had started their school. Something wasn’t working and my fears came out again so I enrolled them back in school. I was sure by now that the principal thought I was nuts. Of course the same thing happened I was very active and everyone knew me but I was told that I was a distraction to the classroom and was asked to not come in. We withdrew them and I said to myself I could do this. Thank goodness my husband is patient with me. After we took them out we kind of just de-schooled them for the rest of the year.

We are currently unschooling all subjects but Math.

The one thing I would recommend to anyone wishing to homeschool would to find a great support group.  I have two and my kids have really found some great friends.

Since it has been raining so much, the caverns are full of mud.  So their brand new shoes and socks are now brown.  I would recommend taking an old pair of shoes just in case.
